Dividend from Deutsche Bank

A German bank

I have now also received the dividends from Deutsche Bank. In the shareholders meeting it was decided to pay out 0.75 cents for each share and since I have only 188 shares I receive 141 euros.

The Stock Dividends page has now been updated.

Visit to Poland

Gdansk, Poland, Activity

I made a slightly longer weekend visit to Poland to see some friends of mine. I have now since the last four years been going to Poland almost every year and it feels as if I have been seeing a country that is changing in front of my eyes.

The infrastructure is significantly improving via the aid of EU and by their own means. This must be pushed even stronger though! The quality of the cars that are driving on the streets are very high. They have new modern cars. Their shopping malls are completely full with people that are there to eat from all the American food chains as well as go shopping in the stores that are from Germany, France, Spain and Sweden. It is strange to see how the French chain stores skipped over Germany and established themselves in Poland instead. I would today not be able to pick a Poland person on the street if I would see them walking. They have been completely westernized and are wearing exactly the same cloths and are buying exactly the same products. If I go back even four years in time at least in my opinion they were wearing cloths that were more eastern European which was more bling, bling with shiny little glass, plastic pieces everywhere.

Today I am angry

Goats, Stockholm, Sweden, KTH

I hate each and every occasion when I am making mistakes based on that I am a foreigner and not 100% understand German letters that are being sent to me. When I came back from my trip from Poland, which I will write a little about later, I had received a letter from my stock broker that they had sold my Commerzbank rights. This I did not want at all because I wanted to buy those shares for 4.5€. So because of my stupidity I now received some peanut money instead of the stocks. Very angry. I guess I must add the rule... when I receive papers that I do not understand 100% then call the bank and talk to them.

Unfortunately things like this happen every now and then when you are a foreigner and it is very easy to try to blame it on someone else but in the end it is (almost) always your own stupidity it goes back to like it was now for me.

Greenlight Capital Inc Q1 2013

Greenlight Capital run by David Einhorn

Stocks Q1 2013

First of all I must admit that Mr. Einhorn put his money where his mouth was because he doubled the amount of shares in Apple.

The new companies that he added:

Capital BK Finl Corp: Is a bank holding company

Hess Corp: Is an American oil company

IAC Interactive Corp: Media and internet company well known and established internet brands.

National BK Hldgs corp: Another bank holding company. One can almost suspect that they expect the interest rates to increase soon again. This would mean that the smaller banks that has no investment banking but are living on the interest rates will all of a sudden start to make a profit again...

Oil STS Intl Inc: Service company for the oil industry

Spirit Aerosystem Hldgs Inc: Building several parts for Boeing airplanes.

Dalal Street Q1 2013

Dalal Street run by Mohnis Pabrai

Stock Q1 2013

Here we can see the dealings of Mohnish Pabrai with his Dalal Street and he made a significant increase of the GM stocks and with Chesapeake Energy it was a fairly small one. I find it interesting to see that he starts to drop the banks.

Analysis of Danone

A French dairy product company

Company: Danone

Business: Sale of fresh dairy products, water, baby and medical nutrition.

Active: This French company are acting globally and are one of the fortune 500 companies.

The reason for this very quick analysis was due to the reports here in Germany that Chinese people are buying all the baby nutrition from the stores and sending it back home to China were it is being sold for 3-4 times the price here in Germany. The reason for this is the discovery of melamine contaminations in the baby food in China. So one of the brands having problem in China is Dumex which is a brand from the French Danone and means current significant sale losses on the Chinese market for Danone. One of the favourite baby nutrition's that are currently being sold like crazy in Germany is Aptamil from Milupa GmbH. The stores have even been forced to limit the packages sold to people to be able to keep some kind of supply on the shelves for the German population.

Oh, horror of horrors

A financial institute

Last night HSBC delivered one of their indexes concerning the buy interest of Chinese industry. This little economy index is created so that anything above 50 is good and below 50 means that the interest to buy or the power to buy is slightly decreased. The same economy people (for some reason they are usually called experts, I have no clue why because they are usually wrong) had estimated that the value should be 50.4 and horror, horror it turned out to be 49.6 as a scientist I would even call that an insignificant variation of error and if one were to apply strict scientific rules for error calculation I really wonder what would come out of it.

Berkshire Hathaway Q1 2013

Berkshire Hathaway the American conglomerat run by Warren Buffett

Stocks in Q1 2013

I added a S to the "ADDED" for IBM which in this case only meant that the addition that was made was very small.

When it comes to the new added companies then:

Chicago Bridge & Iron: Is an engineering and construction company that specialise in oil and gas... I guess Mr. Buffett wants to get his piece of the shale cake.

Starz: Is a media company very similar to Direct TV if I understood things correct.

To be honest I am amazed that he keeps adding in IBM. I really do not find that stock cheap any longer... far, far from it but obviously he still considers the price to be fair for a wonderful company which makes me wonder what I missed in my rough analysis.

Analysis of Abercrombie

An American retail company

Company: Abercrombie

Business: Fashion retail with accessories for men, women and kids under the Abercrombie & Fitch, Abercrombie kids, Hollister and Gilly Hicks brands. Hollister I have already mentioned when looking into attractive stores/shops.

Active: They have 1151 stores in a few markets which means they are less than half the size of H&M. The benefit with that means that there is definitely more room for growth. The main market is the US with 912 stores and only 139 outside which is than mainly in Europe.

Current cash issue

cash, rpoblem, coins, nothing left

Due to Commerzbank I am now ending up in trouble since I stay fully invested at all times. On the end date of this emission (28th of Mai) I will still not have received my salary and I will definitely not have been able to transfer it over to the stock depot (takes 3-5 days). That gives me then two options of which neither is favourable. One is to sell the share rights that I have and the second is to borrow money at 6.5% interest rate.

Analysis of HM

A Swedish fashion retail company

Company: H&M

Business: Fashion retail with H&M, & Other Stories, Cheap Monday, COS, Monki and Weekday. Some of these I have already mentioned when looking into attractive stores/shops. Only in eight countries in Europe is the online shop up and running but this they are working on expanding.

Active: They have 2800 stores in 49 markets which means they are half the size of Inditex. The benefit with that means that there is definitely more room for H&M to grow. The main markets are in Europe where they are well established but also in North America. They have few stores in South America, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Commerzbanks board of thieves

Commerzbank, logo, a German bank

So the second step has now appeared in the news which means that after this reverse stock split they now are able to increase the amount of stocks again. The expected value was thought to be 7 euro per stock but now the board of thieves went out with the news of 4.5 euro per share or better put for 21 old shares one can buy 20 shares at a price of 4.5. This means that the stock price should decrease to around 7.4 euro based on the stock price today... It is truly an outrage because with this 1:1 split which we more or less are talking about with a discounted price of 4.5 € there is no chance NOT to join. A board of thieves that wants to push out the German government so that they can pay themselves bonuses that is what it is all about. Shame on them and shame on me for allowing myself to end up in this trap.

Market capitalization

An American technology design company
A German software and service company

A German machine and turbine producer

Today while working a little with my personalized DAX index I discovered that Siemens is no longer the biggest company on DAX.
The biggest right now is SAP with 77.8 billion euro. Siemens are second with 72 billion euro and Volkswagen are third with 71 billion followed very closely by BASF and Bayer slightly below 70 billion.

Analysis of Metro

A German consumer electronics company

Company: Metro

Business: Mainly consumer electronics. Having more or less monopoly on the German market by having both Saturn as well as mediamarkt. Can therefore without too big problems expand into other markets carrying big losses such as their current establishment in Sweden where several electronic chains have gone insolvent due to the competition.

Active: Main focus and the backbone is Germany. From there expanded to several other European markets.

Italian bonds

Italy, Rome, Colosseum

Today Italy was selling governmental bonds for 10 billion euro. Of these 10 billion bonds sold then 7 billion was for 1 year and the interest rate was as low as 0.7%. The question is what does this mean? Is it a Cyprus effect that we are seeing?

Einhorn and Apple

Greenlight Capital run by the investor David Einhorn

This evening I read an article that stated that Einhorn with his Greenlight Capital have increased their shares in Apple. They are apparently expecting a or several new blockbusters from Apple.
I find it very strange... since I follow each quarter what he buys and sells and in the third quarter he decreased in Apple and in the fourth he made an increase during 2012.

Next week I will get access to the new filings so I will check if Einhorn puts his money where his mouth is or if it is just a show for the masses to try to push up the share price.

Analysis of Amazon

An American online store for everything

Company: Amazon

Business: I´m sure all of you know it and buy by them. The sell everything over post (also electronic). It is interesting to see how a market that was almost dying due to email etc. have now increased again due to these type of companies.

Active: They currently have retail websites for the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China. They keep expanding and fast.

Dividend from E.ON.

A German energy provider

Today E.ON. paid out the dividends for 2012. It was a substantial amount for probably the last time in a longer period. 1.10 € per share which represents almost 8% and for the future they will pay 50-60% of the earnings as I have mentioned before. The sum (264 €) will be added and the Stock Dividends page has now been updated.

Analysis Wal-Mart

An American giant within food and retail

Company: Wal-Mart

Business: Food and retail. They have several different brand names. As an example in the UK they go under the name of ASDA.

Active: Very well established in North America, they are expanding in South America and Asia. Have some presence in Europe and Africa. Plenty of space to grow into though since they are currently present in only 27 countries.

Interesting fact: They employ over 2 million people! 2 million! They are like a small country no only in terms of work force but also in terms of revenue. Only difference is Wal-Mart makes a profit.

New stock added in May: Kernel

An Ukrainian agricultural company

I´ve been looking at this stock for a little bit over a month now and since the salary had arrived I decided to buy it. It turned out to be more difficult than expected to buy this stock and due to that it is such a small company and little trading activity here in Germany the spread is of course to my disadvantage.

The stock is Kernel Holding SA. and I bought 115 shares at a price (including trading fee) of 13.97 €. For what ever reason the stock was blocked so I was unable to buy it online and I was forced to call the brokers to make sure that they opened up the trade in the company. I will show a more proper analysis of it during next week. The stock can be seen in my Stock Portfolio.
