Berkshire Hathaway Q1/Q2 2012: Warren Buffett

An America conglomerat and investment company

When I started working with stocks I decided to take a look at some of the big guys in the business and happily one can fairly easily do that by going to the homepage of SEC in the US. If they have a capital of around 135 million $ then they each quarter has to file how many stocks they have. By looking at the changes one can then observe which stocks they are buying and which ones they are selling. As a small investor on can probably very well follow them because they are shifting so many stocks. Both when buying as well as selling that one can get a price very similar to them and should therefore not loose out too much by doing so.

It is a clever approach and if I would have lived in the US I think I would have directly started to buy the same stocks as Warren Buffett. For me in Germany I just have to pay too big fees and will just stick to observing them.

Personally I prefer to listen more to Charlie Munger than to Warren Buffett. Charlie are telling truths more straight on than Warren. I once saw an interview with Charlie were he said: "Berkshire Hathaway has, if you look at the big bulk of stocks, not performed much better than index. The biggest gains have arrived from 20 stocks. Warren and I have worked together for 40 years. That means one stock every two years was a real winner the rest of them performed like index." Freely from memory so there might be error. Still I found that interesting and I then also realised that it would be impossible for me. Maybe it would be possible for me to buy 1 or 2 of the stocks they had but not all of them and if I can not buy all of them what is the chance then that I pick that one stock that arrive every two years?
