Dividends April 2024

Nike paid out 13.71 €, the US taxman took 2.06 € which left me with 11.65 €.

Rio Tinto paid out 772.21 € of which all was received as cash.

Barclays paid out 117.77 € of which all was in cash to my broker account.

HSBC paid out 203.26 € all received as cash.

It should be mentioned that the tax rate in Sweden is 30% on capital gains such as dividends. In every case in the end of the year I declare these dividends and pay a tax up to the 30% in Sweden. So for the US shares I need to pay 15% more and for the UK shares I need to pay the full 30% from what was paid out. So yes, I get it out as cash but with the tax declaration I pay in the money required for my capital gains.

Bought stocks during December 2022

With the increasing interest rates on mortgages I took the decision to invest in a bank (and others) spread in GBP. This could be done due to that I had sold off the fast food investments in the highly valued dollar.

The Swedish currency is currently low valued and the Swedish stock market have reduced significantly. Sweden is an export heavy country so they will profit from the low valuation of the currency and I will hopefully get a double effect; Currency + stock market going up, so buying an ETF seemed reasonable to me.

500 shares were bought in Barratt Homes for a total value of 2,289.68 € or 4.58 € per share.

1,900 shares were bought in Barclays bank for a total value of 3,384.10 € or 1.78 € per share.

6,500 shares were bought in Lloyds bank for a total value of 3,352.66 € or 0.52 € per share.

270 shares were bought in Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust for a total value of 2,293.44 € or 8.49 € per share.

700 shares were bought in HSBC bank for a total value of 3,953.82 € or 5.65 € per share.

4,900 parts were bought in ETF SWE for a total value of 30,167.53 € or 6.16 € per share.

The monthly update that follows will reflect these changes made to the stock portfolio.

Analysis of Barclays

A well known British bank

Company: Barclays

Business: Financial services provider engaged in personal banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking as well as wealth and investment management. A funny sentence that I found on their homepage "Barclays moves, lends, invests and protects money for customers and clients worldwide." I wonder what the difference is between a customer and a client? Is the money protection against thieves or tax offices?

Active: Global activity with presence in Europe, North and South America, Africa as well as in Asia. In total they are present in 50 countries world wide so in a way they are a diversification on their own.
