Stocks of Interest: March 2016

2016, March, stocks

There are still several nice investments but by the look of it... each passing day and those options are once again getting less and less. For me, as long as I run this contrarian investment approach, there will however always be investments to be made. Last month I pushed in 3k € into IBM, Intel and BASF. All three are solid dividend payers with a solid revenue and earnings basis.

Oh, just like the previous spring I have come to realise that the laid back schedule of one article per day just is not enough. I already have three annual reports with new yearly analysis that must be made + all the dividend payments that are now dropping in + it is soon time to analyse all the DAX companies again... so every now and then I will push out two articles per day.

Stocks of Interest: January 2016

Stocks of Interest

In December 2015 the share prices kept dropping and now in January 2016 even more so. This means to me that contrarian times are here and it is time to go shopping! Unlucky for me, as I have mentioned before, I need to build up my cash buffer as preparation for a potential unemployment period during this year.

I am currently late with plenty of things and then I do not only mean with this report but also from analysis requests due to that I have a terrible cold and have not managed to find the energy to write articles as I would have liked. I am now feeling a bit better and will hopefully get started slowly again.

Stocks of Interest: December 2015

Stocks of Interest

Since the previous month had been so busy I was a bit more relaxed during November. The only addition became RWE which was to a certain extent due to that my order, of another company, did not go through. I decided to build up my 1k buffer on the broker account again and on top of things I had to shuffle over the final part of the debt to my brother to Sweden so the month was pretty strained. Each month I have shuffled over money and here in November I had to push over the final part to be able to pay that off. It will not be 100% correctly settled according to what was agreed but I wanted the bulk to be finished and with the payment that will be made now in December that bulk is gone. This should release some cash for for buying even more stocks but I have decided to monthly start building up a private cash buffer that I can use if I get into to much trouble of finding a new job. I will not be paid any unemployment money here in Germany so for this reason I have been previously foolish by not building up such a pile of cash. I will build up around six months of expenses which in combination with my current buffer would give me around eight months to find a new job without having any other incomes. If it in the end will not be needed then well... you all know where that cash pile will go!

Stocks of Interest: November 2015

Stocks of Interest

Due to the sale of two stocks (MüRe and K+S) I went on an investment bonanza during October. I therefore increased my holdings in RWE, Commerzbank, BP, E.On and K+S. I also started to completely new holdings namely Deere and fast Retailing. To be honest I feel a little investment saturated at the moment and I am considering to build up my 1k € buffer that I like to have on the broker account in case of special situations that can appear.
I privately also hold a 1k € buffer that is not on the broker account but are devoted to the same objective. That buffer I have managed to hold on to but the one on the broker account was eaten up during summer/autumn. I will look at my lists below and see what I decide to do. Who knows maybe there will even be a special situation appearing during this November which makes me clean out both buffers.

Stocks of Interest: October 2015

Stocks, interesting, October, 2015

Well, well, as you all know my latest investment, Volkswagen, became a seriously failed investment. Shareholder in Germany have started to hand in claims due to that the Volkswagen decided not directly to come out with the information. A problem with Germany is that it is impossible to make a class action lawsuit so each investor must file their own lawsuit. I bought my shares within this time window so I legally have the right to file a lawsuit. Should one do so?

Stocks of Interest: September 2015

Stocks, interesting, September, 2015

My latest investment TJX was a Lynch "shopping-mall" investment and it will serve me well over the coming years. The latest period of turbulence have left it pretty much untouched just like my second "shopping-mall" investment ABF.
Almost everything looks cheaper today than what it did one month ago and one need to figure out why is it cheaper as my blog colleague valueandopportunity wrote about here. In these more general drops one can however often pick up quality companies at good prices and please consider that the Stocks of Interest list has nothing to do with quality and simply goes after cheap stocks. I also suspect that I need to take a look at all the Russian companies in the list. Plenty of them would probably be kicked out from the list with a fresher analysis.

Stocks of Interest: August 2015

stocks, August, 2015, interesting

Last month I made one investment that I hope will turn out to be clever and a second one that were one of those Fredrik-contrarian-turnaround-within-ten-years-fingers-crossed moves. So to summarize that second one... maybe not so clever. The first one was that I decided to increase my position in MüRe which I did after the CEO had talked down the price and then gone shopping shares privately
and Gerry Weber I bought because on paper they are not doing bad, and the next generation is taking over the steering so hopefully nice improvements will occur and if not then it will be a bad investment. My biggest problem with the Gerry Weber investment is that there are hardly customers in the stores and that is never a good sign but the new CEO keeps buying shares month after month after month.

Stocks of Interest: July 2015

Stocks, interesting, July, 2015

As many of you know, and probably shake your heads about, the investment for last month became Avtovaz. This is my second investment that is purely based on the management. This also means that a completely new holding was yet again started. Some investors want to be focused with few holdings and based on how I act I am very clearly not one of those. Good? Bad? Right? Wrong? Who cares. There are even more ways to be a successful investor then there are companies in the world and of course the inverse is also true.

Stocks of Interest: June 2015

June, 2015, stocks, interest

In the end, last month, I took the decision and stepped in even heavier in the Austrian ETF which means that I now, due to poor performance of some companies, no more open positions. This means that either I need to step into a new company or I will increase an old holding. Future will tell!

Stocks of Interest: May 2015

Stocks of Interest, May, 2015, contrarian

Last month I did not fill my open position in ETF Austria but instead I decided to jump into the wing broken RWE. As always I jumped in a tick too early and I could and should have waited longer before making the jump into RWE. Tax wise it would have been more clever to have bought them after their dividend payment and not before like I ended up doing. I simply did not think about that and it is not a big issue but 20 € unnecessary in taxes is still stupid and especially considering that I could have bought 4 more shares instead of ending up with this cash dividend and future tax payment.

Stocks of Interest: April 2015

Stocks of Interest, April, 2015

The only open position that I have now which could be of interest to fill would be my ETF Austria but I assume that there is no stress due to two reasons. One the Austrian government recently allowed a bank to go bankrupt and secondly because the oil price seems to remain low for longer then what I had thought. The largest part of the ETF is a bank and the second largest is an oil company so I think I can wait a little.

Stocks of Interest: March 2015

Stocks of Interest, February, 2015, contrarian

Last month I did manage to fill up my positions in Talanx as well as Tessenderlo so the only still "open" positions are the Russian ETF and of course Eniro but they will get no more money until I see a wind of change.

I had no issues averaging up in Talanx and Tessenderlo which opens up more companies that I should average up in such as for instance Enel and Intel, both of which had small initial investments, but I feel no stress in doing so and in the end... investing is a marathon and not a sprint.

Stocks of Interest: February 2015

February, 2015, stocks of interest

I have kept dragging out my investments in the Russian ETF, in Tessenderlo and in Talanx. By the look of it I should not have have done that and instead I should have directly made the investment when the opportunity was there. So we shall see if I am a sufficiently calm investor for being able to increase my average share price of the companies.

I must admit that it is a bit of a hurdle since it is much easier to step in with equal cash and get twice the shares than to step in with equal cash and get half the shares. If I consider a company to still be cheap then I must also be prepared to do this and I think it is important to get over this hurdle because I will need it in the future.

When did you last time average up on your investment?

Shuffle of companies in Google docs

Shuffle, Companies, lists

As I have mentioned before there are companies that I have excluded from the Stocks of Interest list due to me simply feeling uncomfortable of adding them there. I have now decided to change this and I have moved all the companies from the big list that are either in green colour or yellow to the stocks of interest list.

This then also means that several of the companies will have older analytical data and those that were analysed back in 2013 will be once again looked at to see if they have a right to remain on the Stocks of Interest list or if they will be kicked back to the big list.

So for the next one to one and a half month I expect the Stocks of Interest list to be slightly crowded and if it, after all the fresh new analysis, will still be crowded then I will change the boarders for being on the list.

Stocks of Interest: January 2015

January, 2015, Stocks of Interest

The new year has started and some new investments need to be made from the December salary. I have currently three half filled positions which are Talanx, Tessenderlo and the Russian ETF. I was hoping to have filled my Tessenderlo ownership last month but I ended up buying into Russia instead which turned out to be too early as always with me.

Stocks of Interest, contrarian, December, 2014

It is once again time to look over the lists to find out which new investment that should be made here in December. As you might have seen I managed to push in some cash on my broker account so they should and will directly be put to work.

Stocks of Interest: November 2014

Stocks of Interest, contrarian, November, 2014

Now due to the ease of Google Docs I am able to make these type of presentation on a monthly basis and not quarter wise. This was in the end also necessary since I make monthly investments and not quarter or half year investments. All the tables are available online for everyone to observe following the links below.

Stocks of Interest: October 2014

Contrarian, stocks, interest, October, 2014

Even thought I failed and jumped to quickly on the smorgasbord I still publish the list as if it would be used for the decision process of which stock to buy. Once again it will be the snapshots from the Google drive excel sheet.

Re-analysis of Stocks of Interest

Magic, Electric, Mixer, Beat, by hand

As hopefully all of you have noticed some of the analysis of the companies on the Stocks of Interest list are not freshly analysed based on the annual reports from 2013 but instead the analytical data stretches back to the annual reports from 2012. The next step will now be to go over the entire list with fresh analytical data to see if they should still remain on the list or if they should be kicked out.

From feeling I would say that a couple of the companies will be kicked out. Most likely due to that 2013 was a bad year and they ended up having negative earnings but future will tell. The reason why I claim this is because there often is a reason for a low P/E and in many cases that comes from poor quarter reports during the year which has then pushed down the share price. It is however not always the case and those are the interesting ones to pursue.

The markets rallied yesterday and one of the companies I considered buying jumped up over 12%, the second one almost 9% and the third one almost 2%. Simply too much joy! I give it a day or two to see what will happen next and I hope that the happiness turns sour so that I can make my investment soon.

Stocks of Interest: September 2014

list, names, long

Now that Google drive is up and running it will be much easier for me to make a summary. I will try to make this summary in the beginning of each month regarding the most interesting contrarian stocks because I tend to make my monthly investment during the first or second week.
