Stocks bought/sold November/December

Several stocks were bought and sold during this period. The trigger was that I considered the value of Netflix to be excessive and due to that I must now pay taxes in Sweden I decided to balance the gain by getting rid of some loss shares. I keep investing in my UK stock portfolio and any money in my German stock portfolio I directly take out in this case I took out >10k € from my German stock portfolio.

Sold shares

Netflix, 30 shares sold for 12,833.26 € with a gain of 6,938.77 € or 109%.

EasyJet, 947 shares sold for 4,560.53 € with a loss of -2,670.51 € or -38%.

Skanska, 250 shares sold for 3,743.12 € with a loss of -628.86 € or -14%. During the holding period an additional 717 € was paid out in dividends.

My current holding period of stocks is 45 months.

Bought shares

McDonalds, 20 shares bought for 5,082.50 €. I should never have sold them when I previously did. I bought them as a realty company and then in the pandemic I sold them as a fast food company. Stupid!

Berkshire, 20 more shares bought for 6,647.54 €. This means that I currently hold 45 shares for 11,399 €.

Burberry, 170 shares bought for 3,246.04 €.

ETF-All World, 35 shares bought for 3,653.23 €. This means that I currently hold 93 shares for 9,223 €.

Sold Stocks during December 2022

Hmmm... In the end of November the high inflation, prices for gas an electricity was getting to me and my thoughts were as follows. I want to get rid of RWE since it has increased too much and I'm not overly joyed about their energy production so then I might as well balance the massive share price gain by getting rid of some long standing bad investments (German banks!) in my German broker account. So I did.

Secondly... The dollar is high, inflation should lead to higher prices in the fast food chains and people have less spending power meaning they should (but will they though) reduce how much they spend in the fast food chains. I should potentially not have sold off McDonalds since they are not a fast food chain, however, property prices are also going down. I'll keep an eye on McDonalds moving forward.

Restaurant brands bought for 6,438.30 € and sold for 7,580.74 € with a profit of 1,142.44 € (17.7%) and additionally I've received 85.79 € in dividends.

Yum! bought for 5,317.92 € and sold for 5,752.46 €, leaving a profit of 434.54 € (8.2%) and additionally I've received 83.58 € in dividends.

Stock Y was bought for 4,387.05 € and sold for 1,093.06 €, giving a loss of -3,293.99 € (-75.1%).

McDonalds was bought for 4,806.72 € and sold for 7,220.49 €, leaving a profit of 2,413.77 € (50.2%) and additionally 223.65 € was paid out in dividends.

RWE was bought for 4,581.29 € and sold for 13,929.30 €, with a profit of 9,348.01 € (204.1%) and additionally I've received 1,652.50 € in dividends.

VW was bought for 2,003.14 € and sold for 1,623.34 €, with a loss of -379.80 € (-19.0%) and additionally 339.96 € had been paid out in dividends.

Deutsche Bank was bought for 9,483.77 € and sold for 4,204.58 €, giving a loss of -5,279.19 € (-55.7%), over the years I've received 807.45 € in dividends. Held since 2012.

K+S was bought for 5,195.89 € and sold for 4,647.95 €, giving a loss of -547.94 € (-10.6%), additionally I've received 724.40 € in dividends. Held since 2013.

Commerzbank was bought for 7,649.76 € and sold for 5,736.56 €, causing a loss of -1,913.20 € (-25.0%), additionally I've received 905.30 € in dividends over the years. Held since 2012.

My very recent investment McDonalds kindly paid out some dividends for me in the size of 13.89 € for my 28 shares.

Intel paid out a sum of 38.78 € for the 135 shares that I currently hold and 5.82 € went to the tax office.

My German investment company, DBAG, made a smaller dividend payment that usual which is a little bit annoying since they have arrived with reverse warnings that their profit will be larger than expected for 2021 after they downgraded it when Covid-19 hit. Either way for my 155 shares I received 124 € in dividends of which 32.70 € went to taxes.

The company I still have faith in even though many others have left it IBM decided to pay out 34.13 € in dividends of which the taxman took 5.12 €

With the reduced payments from BP I received this time only 35.10 €.

From Nike I received a dividend in the tiny size of 9.33 € and 1.40 € went to taxes.

Stock bought in February 2021

The salary from February was directly pushed into the stock market. The Queens sterling keeps increasing in value which is appreciated but at the moment fairly irrelevant to me since I need it to be high when I leave the UK and have to shuffle the money. Already dreading the fees that might come with that. I've now also filled up my ISA limit and will probably hang on to the March salary until the new tax year starts which will be ~5th April 2021before I can bring in 20k again to the stock ISA.

At this time 1 year ago I was in Australia to visit my brother and his family and Covid-19 was spreading across the world. Happily I was not a contributor to that.

I decided to increase my holding in McDonalds and I therefore bought 13 more shares at a total cost of 2225 €. I now hold 28 shares in McDonalds at a cost of 4807 € or 171.67 € per share.

I also increased my holding in Stock X. I bought 300 more shares at a total cost of 1231 € which means that I now hold 1424 shares at a total cost of 4451 € or 3.13 € per share.

Enjoy the weekend!

Stocks bought in January 2021

The part of the bonus that ended up on my broker account was directly spent today. I ended up buying three different companies of which two are famous.

I bought 25 shares in Berkshire Hathaway to increase my holding in investment companies. Currently I only have DBAG and Ratos, both are fairly small and a bigger investment / holding company was desired in the portfolio. For the 25 shares I paid in total 4,751 € which is around 190 € per share.

The second company that I bought was McDonalds. I'm not very happy with the PE of McDonalds but I still look upon it as a solid investment for the long term. By making this investment I've then also managed to cover my lack of property companies. I bought 15 shares at a total cost of 2,583 € which makes 172 € per share.

After a lot of contemplation I also decided to increase my holding in Stock Y. I therefore bought 830 shares at a total cost of 2,194 € which means I now own 1,600 shares at a total cost of 4,387 € or 2.74 € per share.

Hamburgers, are we still loving it?

I started writing this reflection when the CEO of McDonald's, Mr. Don Thompson, was removed as a CEO after hardly even three years on the job. I am not able to judge if he did a good or a bad job during his period as a CEO however it is a fact that the revenue and profit did not increase as the shareholders were hoping for. Was that due to him, due to that the previous CEO had not responded and started to change the steering or was it due to a general change in society with an interest in healthier food and being prepared to spend more money on food that looks, taste and maybe even claims to be organic. I do not know. But I find less than three years to be too short for even being able to start to change things and especially in a giant like McDonald's. This piece was supposed to be about impatience but it was pulled into another direction during the writing so the title was changed simply to Hamburgers, are we still loving it?

Analysis of McDonalds

An American fastfood and real estate company

Company: McDonalds

Business: One of the biggest property holders in the world. Selling beverages and fast food especially hamburgers.

Active: World wide and are very strongly established in North America and Europe. Expanding into other parts. When I was in Delhi I walked into McDonalds there only to see what was on the menu. They always adapt to where they establish themselves. I guess that comes from that focus is in the long run on property and not on what they serve people in the establishment for keeping things running.

P/E: 18.5
