New stock added in May: Kernel

I´ve been looking at this stock for a little bit over a month now and since the salary had arrived I decided to buy it. It turned out to be more difficult than expected to buy this stock and due to that it is such a small company and little trading activity here in Germany the spread is of course to my disadvantage.

The stock is Kernel Holding SA. and I bought 115 shares at a price (including trading fee) of 13.97 €. For what ever reason the stock was blocked so I was unable to buy it online and I was forced to call the brokers to make sure that they opened up the trade in the company. I will show a more proper analysis of it during next week. The stock can be seen in my Stock Portfolio.

Analysis of Yum! Brands

Company: Yum! Brands

Business: Fast food chain with Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

Active: Very well established in North America, a little in Europe and are stepping heavily into China especially with KFC.

P/E: 18.9

Summary April 2013

Another bad month and the gap is getting wider and wider between me and the DAX index. It makes me slightly concerned because for instance Peter Lynch kept saying that when the stock market dropped by 10% then he also dropped by 10% and when it dropped by 20% then he dropped by 20%. I would very much have liked to be in that situation today however I just do not have the quantity of stocks that he kept in his fond and should therefore also fluctuate much more from index both up and down. Currently mainly down. ;)

Analysis of McDonalds

Company: McDonalds

Business: One of the biggest property holders in the world. Selling beverages and fast food especially hamburgers.

Active: World wide and are very strongly established in North America and Europe. Expanding into other parts. When I was in Delhi I walked into McDonalds there only to see what was on the menu. They always adapt to where they establish themselves. I guess that comes from that focus is in the long run on property and not on what they serve people in the establishment for keeping things running.

P/E: 18.5

Analysis of Starbucks

Company: Starbucks

Business: Selling hot and cold beverages with food, cakes cookies to that drink. They have also started to sell coffee machines and other products considered related to their business.

Active: Strong presence in North America, expanding heavily in Europe and to some extent also in South America and Asia.

P/E: 32.5
